Pontiac is a community of about 12,000 residents located 35 miles north of Bloomington on I-55. There are two public school districts in Pontiac—Pontiac Elementary #429 and Pontiac Twp. High School #90.

The school year is divided into two semesters of 18 weeks each, with 9-week grading periods. Class periods are 45 minutes in length 3 days a week and 90 minutes 2 days a week.
A curriculum that includes over 100 course offerings allows students to select from a wide variety of areas of study.
Advanced courses of study are offered in many disciplines including foreign language, mathematics, science, and English. Honors courses are available in English. These are denoted on the transcript with an (H) behind the course name. Advanced Placement courses are offered in Art, Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, English, Music Theory, Spanish, Statistics and U.S. History. Honors and Advanced Placement courses are not weighted when calculating GPA.
Letter grades are used in marking all report cards. The following standards are used:
A (superior) 92 - 100
B (above average) 83 - 91
C (average) 74 - 82
D (below average) 65 - 73
F (failure) below 65
GPA is computed on all classes except P.E. The grade points assigned to the letter grades for the purpose of computing grade average are:
