Originally titled The Student, Pontiac Township High School’s student newspaper began in 1894. Relaunched in 1919 as The Chief, the publication has existed in many incarnations, including an online version started in 2007, for over a hundred years. Published nine times a year, The Chief is a showcase for student talent and creativity. Students involved with the newspaper’s production meet deadlines with exciting coverage of school organizations, clubs, sports, and other extracurricular and social activities at PTHS. The Chief also highlights poetry, stories, interviews, film reviews, and other short pieces written by students, including the popular “Upperclass Acts.” Reporters convene once a week for assignments, submit articles and photos electronically around the clock, and are supervised in part by a student Editor-in Chief.
